The Sparkstorms is a rare species of dragon that once inhabited all corners of the world. These dragons live on temperate islands, far from settlements and other dragons. The approximate number of representatives of this species is unknown, as many of them were exterminated by hunters.

This species has large dimensions and fairly strong muscles with powerful wings. In addition, some body parts such as paws and physique are very similar to the Night Fury. But despite their size, these dragons are quite agile and fast both on the ground and in the air. Thanks to their streamlined body and powerful wings, they can reach great speed in flight. Their steps are neat and soft, so they can silently sneak up on prey and ambush it. Males have large flat skin flaps from the head to the middle of the neck. At the base of these flaps there are small slits from which flames and sparks are released. However, females do not have such growths. The eyes are large and expressive. Their nostrils are wide and deep, and their head shape is large and rectangular. The tail is massive, covered with spikes and ends in several flaps. Their teeth are rounded and large, but they are well used for tearing off pieces of meat. Sparkstorms have a fairly strong hide. They are not afraid of falling from a great height and can withstand the fire of many dragons. However, at a young age, their skin is still fragile. The skin itself is smooth and soft to the touch, without having large scales.
These dragons have pronounced sexual dimorphism. Males stand out for their large size. Their heads are decorated with impressive horns, which are significantly larger than the horns of females, and a «mane». Their cheekbones have outgrowths, as well as a pair of large canines on the upper jaw. The spines are small and begin at the base of the tail. The size of the females, although not so impressive, but they are not inferior to the males in strength. There are small growths along their heads. And their spikes are larger and start from the shoulder blades.
Their colors are different: with prominent spots, stripes and smooth transitions. Males usually have brighter colors, while females are dull. Albinos are the least common. Unfortunately, their life expectancy is short, as poor health makes them vulnerable to various diseases.
Sparkstorms are smart and witted, proud, confident and curious creatures. They are mostly hostile to humans and other dragons, especially if they invade their territory. They have a good memory, and they are able to distinguish who is a threat and who is not. These dragons live in small packs with their leader. They coexist peacefully with each other, but sometimes they get into fights – for example, during the mating season or when young individuals try to take the place of their leader.
Their behavior often resembles that of puppies: they are inquisitive, artistic and playful, like to imitate and can even laugh in a peculiar way. In taming, these dragons are devoted to the rider, but they will still have their own opinion, which does not coincide with their two-legged companion. The human and Sparkstorms relationship is based solely on mutual respect and trust.
This species has a strict hierarchy, headed by a male. There are usually no more than 12 individuals in a pack: as a rule, there are several adult males (usually no more than 5), females and young. The leader keeps order in the pack and directs the hunting process. Most often, these dragons have an independent disposition and prefer to live outside the pack or alone, not creating a family.
During the mating season, Sparkstorm observe certain traditions: males arrange sparring, demonstrating their strength and attractiveness. Their battles are more like dancing, in which they “light up” their mane and move in time with their opponent in a circle, gradually approaching each other and going on the attack – colliding heads, bumping.
In mating dances, before the start, the male and female bow to each other, showing their respect. Then they move on to a gentle dance, using circular movements, gradually shifting to the center and smooth transitions to the side, similar to a waltz. During the dance, they demonstrate their tenderness and harmony, and at the end touch their heads to each other.
Females lay eggs in shelters made of clay and twigs. These nests are usually located on the territory of the flock, which makes them practically inaccessible to predators. However, single couples who do not have the advantage of living in a pack face the problem of finding secluded and safe places for laying. A female can lay up to three eggs at a time. To preserve the heat necessary for the development of embryos, eggs are covered with moss and leaves. The eggs have a rounded shape and a strong shell of blue color with dark inclusions. The incubation period is about 8 months. During this time, the parents do not stay near the clutch, they return only at the moment of hatching. The flock also does not use constant surveillance of the clutch. However, the members of the flock strictly control their territory, which prevents intruders from approaching the nests.
The cubs are born already fully formed, having only a monochrome color and small spots. As they grow older, they acquire the external features of their specie and "fade": the color and shape of spots or stripes change, and sometimes the spots disappear altogether, creating a unique pattern. Babies grow and develop, becoming an adult in about three years. They stay with their parents until they are teenagers – 20-25 years old. This long period of preparation for independent living allows young individuals to acquire the necessary skills for survival. Subsequently, they decide for themselves whether they want to continue living with their family or start an independent life.
